How did Young D.C. get started?
Working journalists and First Amendment educators founded Young D.C.,
a 501(c)(3) organization, in 1991.
Do the Young D.C. teens have a common goal?
Through Young D.C. participation, teens examine the regionís fragmented society
to produce their own newspaper year-round.
Young D.C. exists to create opportunities for young people from diverse backgrounds
to work together to develop a responsible, independent media voice. Our program
instills commitment to the First Amendment and the responsibilities that flow from
it while cultivating college and work readiness, media literacy and digital media
Teens of the region will grow into media savvy adults who embrace the freedoms
and responsibilities of citizenship, enjoy journalism and reject demagoguery.
