Legg Mason round up, DC United captain Moreno won’t be back for 2011, Skins preseason includes Bills, Ravens, Jets, Cardinals

More then 75,000 fans attended the 42nd Legg Mason Classic at the William H.G. FitzGerald Tennis Center in Rock Creek Park in Northwest D.C. The ATP tournament drew ranked players including Andy Roddick, John Isner, Lleyton Hewitt, Tomas Berdych, Sam Querrey, Marin Cilic and the Bryan Brothers. Surprisingly none of those top players won the final. The winner of the Legg Mason Classic this year was David Nalbandian who defeated Marcos Baghdatis (6-2, 7-6). Nalbandian won $1.4 million. Mardy Fish and Mark Knowles defeated Tomas Berdych and Radek Stepanek (4-6, 7-6, 10-7). They earned $76,950.
Save the dates–next year’s Legg Mason Tennis Classic is schedule for July 30 – Aug. 7 at the tennis center in Rock Creek Park.

In soccer news Kevin Payne, DC United president, confirmed captain Jaime Moreno will not return to the team next year. Moreno has played 14 MLS seasons and is a seven-time all star. He’s collected a career 132 goals. United’s next match is Saturday, Aug. 14. They take on FC Dallas.

Football is back as the Redskins take on the Buffalo Bills in preseason action Aug. 13 at 7:30 p.m. at FedEx Field in Landover, Md. The Skins have two pre-season games at FedEx Field, facing the Baltimore Ravens after the Bills. They play the Ravens Aug. 21. Then the Skins hit the road for two more preseason games versus the New York Jets and Arizona Cardinals. All preseason games will be aired on Comcast SportsNet.
The first regular season game will air Sept. 12 on NBC Sunday Night Football as the Skins play the Dallas Cowboys at FedEx Field.
